Andy started this conversation about the upcoming change to the PMBOK® Guide back in February with this posting. Today, we share another update.
2 important questions that we can address:
(1) When will the new PMBOK® Guide be published and available? And…
(2) When will the PMP Exam change?
First:
Keith Rosenbaum of PMI shared today that PMI is scheduled to publish the 5th Edition of the PMBOK® Guide on 12/31/2012. During the 4th quarter, we hope to have access to a draft version of the Guide.
Second:
Mr. Rosenbaum went on to say that changes to the PMP Exam based on the 5th edition of the PMBOK® Guide will not occur until sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
Deeper dive. If you want more information, you can check out the presentation slides given at the EMEA Global Congress in Marseille in May of this year. Event Presentations” and click on the presentation entitled “REP Breakfast Standards presentation”. See slide 4 for pertinent data. Find more from the Certification department in the presentation “EMEA Congress – REP Breakfast Final Certification”. See slide 7 for details about the exam change.
Grateful for the timely release of some meaniningful information on the PMBOK 5TH Edition – Andy
would it be better to take the 4th edition test or wait until 5th deition is out?
Hi Kelly – we strongly recommend taking the 4th Edition of the PMP Exam for a couple of reasons. First, the current exam has been out for several years, and our materials are well-aligned to bring about Student success. Second, the 5th Edition is larger…more data to master. 1 additional Knowledge Area…5 more Processes…over 100 additional ITTOs. Simply put, the 5th Edition PMP Exam will require Students to learn more information.
However if we consider from industry point of view – what is preferable. If an organisation wants to hire would they prefer 5th edition PMP over 4th edition?
From an industry standpoint there is no difference. Your certification is the same. All things being equal, we’re encouraging people to get in before the exam cuts over to reduce uncertainties and risks. Good luck to you!
Hi Andy Crowe
I purchased your book on how to pass the PMP exam on the first try. I wrote the exam based on PMBOK 4th edition.
I will be writing again and now I need to learn the new knowledge areas and process groups. Will you be updating your material for test takers such as myself?
Is your information online?
Thanks in advance
