When you use our services, you’re trusting us with your information. We understand this is a big responsibility and work hard to protect your information and put you in control.
Effective May 25, 2018
We provide a range of products and services that help people earn a certification, keep a certification, or get better at their job. Our products and services include:
- Books, apps, podcasts, quick-reference-guides, audio content
- Instructor-led training classes
- Learning sites, self-paced online courses
- Student kits, instructor guides
You can use our services in a variety of ways to manage your privacy. For example, InSite is the name of our mobile learning system. We offer our online courses through InSite. You can sign up for an InSite Account if you want to take our online courses. Or, without creating an account, you can browse the full library of courses and take a free trial of a course that interests you. Across our services, you can adjust your privacy settings to control what we collect and how your information is used.
Information Velociteach Collects
We want you to understand the types of information we collect as you use our services.
We collect information to provide better services to all our users — from figuring out basic stuff like which browser you use most often, to more complex things like which pages on our website are confusing or take too long to load. We use various technologies to collect and store information, including cookies, pixel tags, local storage, such as browser web storage or application data caches, databases, and server logs. The information Velociteach collects, and how that information is used, depends on how you use our services and how you manage your privacy controls.
When you’re not signed in to an InSite Account, we store the information we collect with unique identifiers tied to the browser, application, or device you’re using. This helps us do things like determine the best way to format information during your browsing sessions based on the most frequent browsers or devices being used.
When you’re signed in, we also collect information that we store with your InSite Account, which we treat as personal information.
Information you provide to us
When you create an InSite Account, you provide us with personal information that includes your name, email, and a password. Even if you aren’t signed in to an InSite Account, you might choose to provide us with information — like an email address to receive updates about our services.
Information we collect as you use our services
Your apps, browsers & devices
We collect information about the apps, browsers, and devices you use to access Velociteach services, which helps us provide features like new practice test questions, corrections to content (like typos!), and better formatting.
The information we collect includes unique identifiers, browser type and settings, device type and settings, operating system, and application version number. We also collect information about the interaction of your apps, browsers, and devices with our services, including IP address, crash reports, system activity, and the date, time, and referrer URL of your request.
We collect this information when a Velociteach service on your device contacts our servers — for example, when you take a course from your smart phone or tablet.
When you purchase a product or service from our website, your privacy and security are our top priority. For example, we use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect your information during checkout. And, we don’t store your credit card number on our servers. However, we do store some practical information, like your receipt and proof of purchase. Here is the information we may collect:
Books and Materials. If you purchase a book, flash card app, quick reference guide or any of our products or services from another party like Amazon or iTunes, we don’t store any of that data.
Classes. If you purchase a seat in one of our live, instructor-led classes, we may collect your name, shipping address, billing address, phone, email, and credit card information. We pass the billing data to a payment gateway service provider for payment processing. Other than the last 4 digits, we do not store your credit card number on our server or in our records.
Courses. If you purchase a self-paced, online-learning InSite course, we may collect your name, billing address, email, InSite password, and credit card information. We pass the billing data to a payment gateway service provider to process the payment. Other than the last 4 digits, we do not store your credit card number on our server or in our records. There is one, rare exception to this rule. If you purchased the subscription that gives you access to all PDU courses (it’s one option that was available for the PDU Passport), then that subscription option renews annually. For those subscribers, their credit card information is stored. That’s a rare case – we don’t offer that auto-renewal option any longer. All other purchases of the PDU Passport are processed just like that of an individual online course.
We collect information about your activity in our services, which we use to do things like make sure we can provide you with a Certificate of Completion for a course or score reports from practice tests. The activity information we collect may include:
- Course registration, start, and end dates
- Class attendance
- Class notes, practice test results, and course progress
- Certificate of Completion
Your communication with us
We collect information about your communication with us, which we use to do things like make sure the right person is answering your questions and that those answers are helpful. The communication information we collect may include:
Calls. If you call Velociteach, you may hear the familiar message “your call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes.” We may collect telephony log information like your name, phone number, the time and date of calls and messages, duration of calls, routing information, and types of calls.
Chats. If you use our chat services, we may collect chat log information like your name, email address, IP address, duration of the chat session, and the transcription of the message.
Emails. If you communicate with us using email, we may collect information like your name, email address (of course), date and time of the email, and the contents of the message. If your email address is added to a list for future offers from Velociteach, you may opt out or unsubscribe at any time.
Posted Comments. If you post a comment on our site about one of our podcasts, we may collect information like your name, email address, date and time of the posted comment, and the text of the comment.
You can visit your InSite Account or contact us to find and manage activity information that’s saved in your account.
Why Velociteach Collects Data
We use data to build better services
We use the information we collect from all our services for the following purposes:
Provide our services
We use your information to deliver our services, like proving to PMI that you’ve earned your contact hours, or providing your access to our online courses, or tracking your progress and storing your Certificates of Completion so that you can record your PDUs with PMI.
Maintain & improve our services
We also use your information to ensure our services are working as intended, such as tracking outages or troubleshooting issues that you report to us. And we use your information to make improvements to our services — for example, understanding bottlenecks in our processes or annoying “features” that cause you the most heartburn.
Develop new services
We use the information we collect in existing services to help us develop new ones. For example, the survey information we receive from you helps us know what courses to build or topics to explore on future podcasts.
We use data for analytics and measurement to understand how our services are used. For example, we analyze data about your visits to our sites to do things like optimize product design. And we also use data about the ads you interact with to understand the performance of the ad campaigns. We use a variety of tools to do this, including Google Analytics, Pixel, and Lucky Orange. When you visit sites that use Google Analytics, Google and a Google Analytics customer may link information about your activity from that site with activity from other sites that use our ad services.
Communicate with you
We use information we collect, like your email address, to interact with you directly. For example, we may send you a notification a few days before your class takes place or your access to an InSite course expires. Or, we may let you know about upcoming changes or improvements to our services. And if you contact Velociteach, we’ll keep a record of your request in order to help solve any issues you might be facing.
Protect Velociteach, our users, and the public
We use information to help improve the safety and reliability of our services. This includes detecting, preventing, and responding to fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues that could harm Velociteach, our users, or the public.
We use different technologies to process your information for these purposes. We use automated systems that analyze your content to provide you with things like customized search results, personalized ads, or other features tailored to how you use our services. And we analyze your content to help us detect abuse such as spam, malware, and illegal content.
Your Privacy Controls
You have choices regarding the information we collect and how it’s used
This section describes controls for managing your privacy across our products and services.
Managing, reviewing, and updating your information
You can always review and update information by visiting the services you use or contacting us. Here are some examples:
Classes. If you purchased a seat in one of our live, instructor-led classes, contact us to review or update any of your information, such as name, email address, or shipping address.
Courses. If you purchase a self-paced, online-learning InSite course, you can log in and access information, including access keys you have not activated, Certificates of Completion, receipts, and your password.
Exporting, removing & deleting your information
You can export some of your information for back up or for other use. For example, you may access Certificates of Completion for InSite courses you’ve taken, print them out, and save the files on your personal computer. You earn PDUs with these courses that help you maintain your certification, so keeping a copy of the proof is a great idea as you register those PDUs with PMI.
You may request that we remove or delete or anonymize your information. Contact us, and we can confirm those steps with you. In some cases, the process is simple and you can do it without contacting us. For example, if you want your email removed from a list, you can unsubscribe from that service or list. For other requests, contact us.
There are other ways to control the information Velociteach collects whether or not you’re signed in to a Velociteach Account, including:
- Browser settings: For example, you can configure your browser to indicate when Velociteach has set a cookie in your browser. You can also configure your browser to block all cookies from a specific domain or all domains. But remember that our services rely on cookies to function properly, for things like tracking your progress and remembering the last lesson you took in an InSite course.
- Device-level settings: Your device may have controls that determine what information we collect. For example, you can modify location settings on your portable devices.
Sharing Your Information
When Velociteach shares your information
We do not share your personal information with companies, organizations, or individuals outside of Velociteach except in the following cases:
With your consent
We’ll share personal information outside of Velociteach when we have your consent. For example, we believe the testimonials that have the most impact come from actual customers like you. If you post a review or provide feedback about a course, product, or service, we’ll get your permission before attributing your name with that quote or testimonial; otherwise, we’ll leave the comments anonymous.
For external processing
For legal reasons
We will share personal information outside of Velociteach if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to:
- Meet any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
- Enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations.
- Detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues.
- Protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of Velociteach, our users, or the public as required or permitted by law.
We may share non-personally identifiable information publicly and with our partners — like publishers, advertisers, developers, or rights holders. For example, we share information publicly to show trends about the general use of our services, such as the popularity or ratings of courses or apps. We also allow specific partners to collect information from your browser or device for advertising and measurement purposes using their own cookies or similar technologies.
Keeping Your Information Secure
We build security into our services to protect your information
All Velociteach products are built with strong security features that continuously protect your information. The insights we gain from maintaining our services help us detect and automatically block security threats from ever reaching you. And if we do detect something risky that we think you should know about, we’ll notify you and help guide you through steps to stay better protected.
We work hard to protect you and Velociteach from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of information we hold, including:
- We use encryption to keep your data private while in transit
- We offer a range of security features to help you protect your account
- We review our information collection, storage, and processing practices, including physical security measures, to prevent unauthorized access to our systems
- We restrict access to personal information to Velociteach employees, contractors, and agents who need that information in order to process it. Anyone with this access is subject to strict contractual confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or terminated if they fail to meet these obligations.
Compliance & Cooperation With Regulators
Your information may be processed on servers located outside of the country where you live. Data protection laws vary among countries, with some providing more protection than others. Regardless of where your information is processed, we apply the same protections described in this policy. We also comply with certain legal frameworks relating to the transfer of data, such as the EU-US and Swiss-US Privacy Shield Frameworks.
When we receive formal written complaints, we respond by contacting the person who made the complaint. We work with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of your data that we cannot resolve with you directly.
