Last night, PMI officially announced the launch of an Agile Certification. If you’re counting, Agile will be the 6th certification offered by the Project Management Institute. Here is the list: PMP®®, CAPM®®, PgMP®, PMI-SP®, PMI-RMP®, and the yet-to-be-named Agile.
PMI released the following details regarding the Agile Certification:
Who is Eligible?
- Practitioners who either hold the PMP® currently or have 2000 hours of general project management experience;
- Plus, 1500 hours working on Agile teams or using Agile methods;
- Plus, 21 contact hours of training in Agile topics
Do you have to pass an exam? Why, yes, of course!
- 3 hours, 120 questions;
- Computer-based and administered by Prometric Testing Centers worldwide;
- The cost is $435 for PMI members
How do you maintain the Agile Certification?
- 30 PDUs every 3 years;
- Fine print: PDUs count toward the PMI Agile Certification only if they cover Agile topics. These PDUs also crossover and count for PMP® and PgMP renewals. However, general project management courses that earn PDUs will not count for renewal of the Agile certification.
Key Dates:
April 2011: Examination Content Outline available
May 2011: PMI will begin accepting and reviewing applications
Q3 2011: The Agile Certification examination will be available
Q4 2011: The first Agile Certifications will be awarded to successful pilot candidates
I’ve summarized the highpoints of this PMI Agile Certification. You can read all about it at http://www.pmi.org/agile.aspx . I found this document to be most helpful. Very interesting times ahead!
Yours in Agility!
