Today, the Space Shuttle Discovery made its final landing in Florida. Discovery traveled 148,000,000 miles, completed 39 missions, delivered 27 years of service, and logged exactly 1 year (365 days) in space. Remarkable! What a work horse. What a reliable vehicle!
You may have tools that work for you…processes, checklists, practices that you’ve put to use with great success for years and years. Guess what…that’s ok! Yes, we need to be open to change. We must pursue innovation. It’s healthy to challenge our methods and search for better tools, better means of conducting our projects. But if you have something that works, keep using it! Tweak it, improve it, and ask others to help enhance it. But, keep riding that proven horse.
This message is aimed at the innovators and early adopters out there…and you know who you are. Yes, keep challenging the status quo – continue to look for new tools to add to your box. But, if you have something that works – a proven winner like the Space Shuttle Discovery – then keep using it!
