Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you are already having fun today – or are planning something fun for later!
March 17th is traditionally a day of celebration, named after Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. There is much heritage and lore surrounding this feast day or celebration day – but for most of us, it is a day to smile, wear something green, pinch those who don’t, and enjoy some camaraderie with other celebrants.
As a project manager and as a leader of a team, don’t forget to have some fun along the way. Today would be a great day for a team-building event! I am reminded of Jack Nicholson in a movie named “The Shining.” He played the role of Jack Torrance, and the scene I am thinking of right now is his typing over and over, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
Not every day needs to be silly. There is serious work to be done to deliver a successful project! But keep up the morale with some good ol’ fashioned fun along the way.
I remember one Halloween; I came to the office in costume. I was dressed as an IT Project Manager. My team said I wasn’t scary at all, well, that is until I showed them where we were on the schedule and the budget!
