So you just became PMP certified? Hey, congrats! I’m sure the last thing on your mind right now is planning your required 60 PDUs for the next three years.
Don’t worry; I’ll break it down for you. I would suggest bookmarking PMI’s page on Maintaining Your PMI Certification. This has all the appropriate links you’ll need when you go on to report your PDUs.
For starters, don’t feel overwhelmed about how you’ll earn your PDUs. There are many ways to do so, including eLearning, PMI events, live classes, or conferences.
You can report your hours in one of two ways: online or by mail. For a faster turnaround, I recommend the online option. Before you can begin, you’ll have to know which category your PDUs fall under:
- Category A- Courses offered by PMI REPs
- Category B- Continuing Education
- Category C- Self-Directed Learning
- Category D- Creating New PM Knowledge
- Category E- Volunteer Service
- Category F- Working as a Professional in Project Management
Since Velociteach offers Category A PDUs, let’s focus on that option.
- Log in to Your credentials will be listed on the left
- Select the link “Report PDU”
- You’ll see a drop down list—select Category A
- Next, select “Find An Activity” under the Activity Type drop down
- From here, you will be able to search your provider (Velociteach) or activity
- Find your course from the list, and select it’s Activity #
- Continue to fill out information on the date of the activity, and how many PDUs you’re claiming
- And then you’re almost done! PMI will have a quick survey for you to take before your submission is complete
For keeping up with your PDUs, set whatever reminders will help you best. What I find the most helpful is signing into “MyPMI” on pmi.org. This pulls up your profile, and will have a handy box on the right of the screen that tracks your progress.
This should go without saying, but don’t wait until the last minute to do your homework (having high school flashbacks yet?)! Pace yourself, or earn your PDUs early! You worked so hard to get certified, don’t let it go to waste.
PDUs can get a bit tricky. Always feel free to call Velociteach, or PMI for help.
