While a leading project manager in the IT industry, Andy realized he wanted to teach others to do what he loved – project management. So in 2002 he founded Velociteach with a goal to empower others to learn project management in a simple, dynamic way that also encouraged personal and professional growth. Andy grounded his new company in the philosophy that continuous improvement—both of working practices and self—is the cornerstone of quality management, a belief that he imparts in all of the company’s classes, materials and day-to-day operations.
Andy’s visionary leadership led to the creation of unique Accelerated Learning course curricula; InSite, the premier e-learning portal used by project managers on six continents; and revolutionary licensed training products now being used in over 30 countries across the globe.
From the beginning of his career in software development through his tenure with firms such as Manhattan Associates and Intellinet, Andy has worked with a diverse group of globally-recognized organizations. He has led several high-profile international information technology projects, including the creation of Europe’s largest e-commerce site and the landmark Project Canopy. Andy was appointed to serve on Microsoft’s DNA and .NET Advisory Committees as one of 21 individuals worldwide, representing technology-enabled countries from six continents, and as an expert on project management he served on the Project Management Institute’s team for the 3rd edition of the PMBOK® Guide and the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3).
As a now highly sought-after project management speaker and author, Andy has published one of the most respected books in the industry, The PMP® Exam: How to Pass on Your First Try, which has been reprinted 27 times in five editions and sold more than 250,000 copies worldwide. Among other titles, Andy is also the author of Alpha Project Managers: What the Top 2% Know That Everyone Else Does Not, which is based on his landmark Alpha Study of over 5,000 project managers and stakeholders in the U.S. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Andy is a prolific writer and speaker with a focus on project management theory, curriculum development, and instructional delivery.
Andy’s insight into the project management industry, its milestones and its future, allows him to hone in on what is most important for PMs to know. He spends part of the year delivering renowned speeches that center on motivating project teams, and going in depth on his Alpha project manager’s study. Andy has spoken at events, conferences, and PMI meetings across the world.
Alongside his speaking engagements and his roles in project management, Andy is strongly committed to community involvement, serving as a volunteer and board member with the Boys & Girls Club of Cobb County and Vice President of the Symphony on the Square in Marietta, Georgia. He is an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta, Leadership Cobb, and Honorary Commanders. As part of the Velociteach mission, Andy believes in the value of giving back to the community through acts of service.
